Thurs. 9/22 – POPs Ball feat. Anders Osborne, special guests, and the Outer Borough Brass Band

We’re excited to be part of the recently announced POPs Ball @ the Hiro Ballroom!

::::::::

In both a nod to the legendary Mardi Gras party MOMs Ball in New Orleans, which always featured the recently parted Radiators, and an homage to Louis Armstrong who was lovingly nicknamed “Pops”; CEG & Nolafunk.com introduce the first annual POPs Ball.

It was only fitting to have Radiators front-man Dave Malone (guitar, vocals) be a part of the inaugural POPs Ball party, joining Anders Osborne and his band which features Carl Dufrene and Eric Bolivar. “Big Sam” Williams (trombone, vocals) of Big Sam’s Funky Nation and John “Papa” Gros (B3, vocals) of Papa Grows Funk will join the band too, as will DJ Logic, a frequent traveler to and performer in the Crescent City.

The Outer Borough Brass Band, a collective of musicians delivering funk, traditional jazz and New Orleans second line grooves to the boroughs of NYC, will open the show.

While POPs Ball is nearly a half a year from Mardi Gras, fans can expect the vibe of a Mardi Gras party.

Outer Borough Brass Band @ Brooklyn Bowl 8/24

Brooklyn Bowl

This just in! A late gig addition: The Outer Borough Brass Band will be playing this Wednesday 8/24 at Brooklyn Bowl, opening for The Stooges Brass Band!

The Stooges Brass Band has been a premier New Orleans Brass Band since 1996. While appealing to the emotions of traditional jazz, the brass band uses their hip-hop influence to create a new sound. Their innovative incorporation of hip-hop sound to the traditional styling of New Orleans brass band music has set them apart from other New Orleans bands and allowed The Stooges to develop an extraordinary performance history, including performances with Jessica Simpson and Jadakiss.

Come on down for a killing night of brass band funk in Brooklyn! Our set starts at 8pm

Outer Borough Brass Band @ Sullivan Hall w/ Joe Krown Trio feat. Walter “Wolfman” Washington & Russell Batiste Jr.

Outer Borough Brass Band

We’re happy to announce our next show coming up soon – mark your calendars:

At 8:00 on Friday, May 27th, the Outer Borough Brass Band will be opening for Joe Krown Trio feat. the legendary Walter “Wolfman” Washington, and drummer Russell Batiste Jr. at Sullivan Hall.

This is going to be a fun, funky night of New Orleans music here in NYC!

Joe Krown (Hammond B-3), Walter Wolfman Washington (guitar &
vocals) & Russell Batiste (drums & background vocals) started playing together in March 2007. The trio has been performing every Sunday at a local New Orleans nightclub, the Maple Leaf Bar. The combination of the soulful vocals of Walter with the big sound of the Hammond B-3 (which Joe also plays all of the bass parts on the B-3) and the masterful drumming skills of Russell Batiste Jr. has developed it’s own unique sound.

Joe Krown Trio is followed by a late night performance from MiloZ

We hope to see you out in support of your local NYC-brass band! Stay tuned for more Outer Borough Brass dates coming up soon.
